Overwhelming Sin

This morning I was watching a movie with my sons. In the movie, the main character had a chance to receive all the glory for his own accomplishments. He had a trainer who motivated him and provided him with invaluable guidance to obtain those accomplishments. This trainer also went above and beyond to make sure that he was able to succeed in life. Instead, when the time came to accept credit for his own accomplishments, he gave the honor to his trainer. For it was the trainer that showed him what to do and how to do it in order to achieve the accolades he was entitled to. And in giving all the honor to the trainer, he himself also received recognition as well.

I’m typically not the one to cry but as I watched this movie, my eyes began to swell. I began to think of Jesus, my personal trainer. The one who saw me and loved me in my sin. Even when I wanted to do things my own way, he died for me. While I was yet being governed by my sinful desires, he became the atonement for my sin, bearing upon himself the full weight of God’s anger/wrath for evil. He sacrificed himself for me and gave me instructions on how to navigate this temporary life and how to obtain eternal life when this one ends. He is indeed worthy of ALL honor and ALL praise. Any recognition that I may receive for any good that I do is nothing compared to what Christ did by dying for me. If I am able to achieve any type of success in this life, the glory goes to Christ and to Christ alone.

Sin separates us from God. We, in of ourselves, lack the power to overcome that sin. It is only through the shed blood of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ that we can find forgiveness and the redemption from our sins. Trust in Him today, and find in him the power to overcome the overwhelming sin in your life.

What I want the most is for this to not be about me. But rather the focus be placed on Jesus Christ; the author and finisher of our faith. I am just a vessel willing to be used by him and for him.
